What Parenting Styles Parents should adopt and their Affects on Kids

Parenting Styles

Parenting Styles are psychological strategies that parents use for the nourishment of children. Parenting Styles quality is much important as the time of parents should have quality, quantity doesn’t matter. Parents should give their children quality time. Parenting Styles are how parents respond to their children. There are different parenting standards in different years of child growth. A child’s temperament and parents’ cultural patterns influence the kind of parenting style a child may receive.

Researchers found that the parents who provide their children with proper, independence, nurture, and firm control, have a high level of competency and strong vision and can compete with society. The parents who show love, care, and protection to children, the children have positive and great thinking. Extraordinary developmental skills result from positive parenting styles including maintaining a close relationship with society and independence being self-reliant. In the 1980s decade, the Psychological researchers started exploring the influence of parenting styles on the development of a child.

Diana Baumrind’s Parenting Styles Theory

In the 1960s, Baumrind noticed that preschoolers show different behaviors. Baumrind’s theory defines that there is a close relationship between parenting styles and children’s behavior.

Based on the analysis, interviews, and extensive observation, initially, Baumrind identified three different types of parenting styles: Authoritative Parenting, Authoritarian Parenting, and Permissive Parenting. But later, they expanded Baumrind’s permissive parenting style into two different types: Permissive Parenting (also known as indulgent parenting style) and Neglectful Parenting (also known as uninvolved parenting style).

Baurmrind Parenting Styles

They are United-state centric. Baurmrind gave four parenting styles as follows,

Authoritarian Parenting Styles:

It includes the following patterns,

  • Mostly they thought of discipline.
  • They mostly show strict and discipline behavior.
  • As such no rules are explained but communication from parents to a child.
  • They are high demanding but low responsive.
  • They have a high level of parental control.
  • They have high expectations from the child but they gave limited facility to the child.

Children who have Authoritarian Parenting Styles have the following characteristics:

  • Mostly stay unhappy.
  • Less confidence and less independent.
  • Low self-esteem
  • More insecurities
  • Lack of talent
  • Bad academically
  • Have mental issues
  • Poor social communication & skills
  • Behavior problem
  • Maybe addict to drugs

Permissive Parenting Styles:

It includes the following patterns:

  • This type of parents mostly let their children what they want.
  • They offer limited guidance and direction.
  • They are more likely for their children’s friends.
  • They are not strict even very linear with their children.
  • They don’t want to disappoint their children.

Children who have Permissive Parenting Styles have the following characteristics:

  • They cannot follow any rule & regulation.
  • They have an egocentric personality.
  • They have worse self-control.
  • social life becomes problematic.

 Uninvolved Parenting Styles:

These types of parents have the following characteristics!

  • They are not involved in their children’s life.
  • They give them freedom and stay away from their matters.
  • They are less interested in children’s life.
  • They are not sure what to do.
  • They have less communication with the child.
  • They are less Caring & little nurturing.
  • They are low demanding low responsive.

Children who have Uninvolved Parenting Styles have the following characteristics:

  • They have more mental issues.
  • Lack of self-esteem.
  • Addicted easily.
  • Encounter more delinquency.
  • Suicidal behavior in adulthood.

Authoritative Parenting Styles:

Also known as Democratic Parenting Style. It includes the following patterns:

  • They are responsible, reasonable, and most nurturing.
  • They set hight but clear and real expectations.
  • All rules from them are very clear and have a clear purpose.
  • Communication with children is very effective and having a good level of understanding with children.
  • They are more nurturing.
  • They are High demanding but also highly responsive.
  • They are affectionate and very supportive.

Children who have Authoritative Parenting Styles have the following characteristics:

  • They remain happy and calm.
  • They are more confident
  • High self-esteem
  • Good social skills
  • Having a positive attitude.
  • Having better mental health.
  • Less violent
  • More competent
  • Having less chance of depression, anxiety, and other psychological problems.

Which Parenting Style is the most successful and effective?

According to research, the Authoritative Parenting Style is more effective than all others. All researchers clear that Authoritative Parenting Style has good results. Psychiatrists and Psychologists also declared Authoritative is the best parenting style.
